About My Practice

Atlas Acupuncture Sylva, Dillsboro, Cullowhee, Franklin, NCMy Office
My office is located in a quiet, private setting at 78 Hardrock Rd. off route 441 south of Dillsboro, near the Savannah Fire Department. It is convenient to the towns of Sylva, Dillsboro, Cullowhee, and Franklin, NC.

Although the office is not accessible for wheelchairs at this time, I plan to make it so in the future. If you have need for accessibility, I can arrange to treat you at an accessible location. See a map and directions on the Map and Directions page.

The waiting room has magazines and books, which patients may check out, as well as free literature about various aspects of acupuncture treatment. There are a coat closet and restroom for your convenience. Friends or family members are welcome to wait for you here or on the screened porch, which has a pretty mountain view. The treatment room has a comfortable treatment table, rated for up to 500 pounds, and a kitchen area with bottled water for thirsty patients.

Atlas Acupuncture Treatment RoomMy Practice
I practice Five-Element Acupuncture, where I observe how a person lives in nature and through the seasons, working with mind and spirit as well as bodily ailments. Treatments aim to balance the body’s energy (qi), stimulating your own natural innate healing ability on all levels.

Most people come with physical health concerns, and are not aware that acupuncture is effective for mental, emotional, and spiritual issues as well. We in the West have learned to think of these as separate issues, while Oriental Medicine sees them as integral parts of the whole person. Treatment addresses the person on all levels. See the Five-Element Acupuncture page for more information.

I offer you compassionate, holistic, relationship-centered, professional care. The time and attention you receive may be a new experience, and can lead to excellent results. You and I will work together in partnership, to treat the causes of your problems, and to open possibilities for happier, healthier living. As we progress in treatment, you may envision new goals for your health and your life.

Atlas Acupuncture Caring TreatmentHow Treatment Starts
The initial appointment lasts about two hours, and includes a health and life history, physical exam, discussion about your treatment goals, and the first needle treatment. Subsequent visits last about one hour, and include discussion, pulse taking, and needle treatment. You will often have “homework” related to your treatment goals, which will support and enhance your results.

The first several weeks are a time for me to get to know you better, and a time for you to begin listening to your body more intently than you may have before. Arranging to come weekly for the first six treatments will give you the most benefit, make it easier for you to remember appointments, and reinforce your commitment to tend yourself regularly in new ways. After five or six treatments, you and I will have a good sense of how acupuncture treatments are serving you, and we will discuss how treatments should proceed.

How Long Treatment Will Be Needed
How frequently and how long you will need treatments depends on your symptoms and how long you have been experiencing them. Once improvements are lasting close to an entire week, treatments will decrease to every two weeks, and eventually monthly and seasonally. If you have a problem that is short in duration, for example, tennis elbow, it will resolve more quickly than something you have had for years, such as hypertension or arthritis. My goal is to assist you in getting well so you won’t need frequent treatments. However, moving to less frequent treatments too soon is false economy, as treatments are less effective when further apart.

Fees and Payments
Fees are: $100 for the Initial Assessment and Treatment, which lasts two hours, and $65 for Continuing Acupuncture Treatments.

Payment is expected at the time of treatment, by cash or check. I do not take credit cards at this time. If you have insurance coverage for acupuncture, I can provide coded forms for you to send to your insurance company for reimbursement.

If finances are an issue, please call me to discuss it. I will do my best to make treatment possible for you.

Hours
I treat patients Monday through Friday. For your convenience, after-work appointments can begin as late as 7 PM. If you feel the time is right, I would be pleased to set up an appointment and work with you. Call me at 828-226-4032.
